“Skal” has been conceived using Grasshopper as a design tool. Everything from the general surface to the punctured holes are parametrically controlled through a series of definitions. A set of points (and their respective locations in space), each controlled independently, are used to define the base surface. These points are then copied, raised in the y-direction, and further manipulated to create variations between the top shell and the base. A simple circle is then populated along the top surface, with the radii value determined by two control points.
